Caring for your Old Barn Leather Product
Being a natural material, each piece of leather has a character all of its own
Leather is a natural product and its surface is seldom uniform, which is part of its charm
Stretch marks, gentle surface and colour variations are characteristic
Small blemishes and scars may also be present. These may also be due to tanning and curing processes
Leather contains natural oils and therefore its colour can vary slightly and dyes may not ‘take’ uniformly across its surface
Leather is not waterproof!
If the leather should get wet, dab it with a soft, absorbent cotton cloth and leave it to dry naturally
Never use a hairdryer or radiator to dry leather as this will cause the leather to become brittle and it may even crack eventually
To keep its lustre, polish your leather item from time to time with a good quality leather balm or natural wax
You can also use a little beeswax but be sure to buff it thoroughly and remove all traces from the stitching
Try not to leave leather in direct sunlight for prolonged periods as it will dry out and the colour is likely to fade or become patchy
