Our Story

The Old Barn Leather studio is located in The County of Moray , on the fringes of the Scottish Highlands. We look out over the Moray Firth towards the town of Golspie in the distance. Just across the path from our house is our old barn, which I share with my husband, Iain, and all his many projects, from motor bikes to wind chimes.

We love it here! It’s a wonderfully peaceful place to live and we are blessed with an abundance of wildlife. More than forty species of birds visit us through the year, and pine marten, badgers, hare and deer are regular guests. Mums come with their baby fawns to bed down in our garden where they know they are safe. We feel very privileged.

I’ve been working with leather for twenty years now, and all my products are hand crafted from scratch. Each project begins with selecting the best leather, drawing a design and transferring it to the leather. Then it is hand carved, dyed, hand stitched and finally polished. I don’t use machines for anything and I use every scrap of leather, rescuing, reusing and recycling wherever possible (including my packaging).

Bespoke items are always a pleasure to make, becoming unique gifts that will last a lifetime. And designs that are submitted to Old Barn Leather will always be one-of-a-kind, never to be reproduced. So, if you have an idea you would like to discuss, please drop me a line .

Throughout the year, Old Barn Leather participates at fairs and markets and, though not yet a regular feature, we do run workshops on request. Keep an eye on the Markets & Events page and definitely come and say hello if you see us – you may even be able to have a go yourself!

The studio is not routinely open to the public at the moment, but if you would like to visit, do get in touch.
